How to join…

So you have decided that you want to be a member of Blue Mountains Food Co-operative Ltd. Congratulations and welcome to our co-op, with over 2000 other like-minded members.

Please drop into the shop, where you will be asked to fill out a membership application form, and given the choice of paying for either a 6 ($16.25) or 12 month ($32.50) membership.

You will be given a booklet explaining how the Co-op works,  and a temporary membership card (white & hand written) valid for one month. Once you receive your card please make sure you have it handy to show staff when you purchase your goods…it really makes their job much easier!

Once your membership has been approved by the board, a permanent card (green laminated) will be posted to you.

Why become a member?

To increase our purchasing power: to ensure continued low prices.

To support ethical food production:  including encouraging and supporting local producers.

To have a say in how your Co-op is run:  As a member you are one of the owners of the Co-op, and have voting rights at member meetings.

To save money:  Member prices are 10% less than non-member prices.

To volunteer: Once your membership has been approved, you can book in for a volunteer shift in the shop. You can do a maximum of 4 hours per month, but you can do it in a 4 hour block or 2 x 2 hour blocks. Once you have completed 4 hours you will receive a 20% discount off your next $250.00 worth of grocery shopping – no time limit.

Things you might like to know about membership…

We only send you emails relating to Co-op activities, and do not allow access to our membership database by any other organisations.

Other people in your household may also shop at the Co-op at member’s prices, but officially they are not members of the Co-op.

There is only one member per membership, so if you would like 2 membership cards for 2 different people, then you will need to pay for 2 memberships.

As a member you will have voting rights at Co-op member meetings, so long as your membership is current.

As a new member you can volunteer and vote at meetings after your membership is approved by the Board.
